Conventions Continued...

I'll stop with the list of conventions after this, and create a link -- much easier to keep track.

For those of you who are not attending Wiscon, ;) the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts (IAFA) is holding a conference in Fort Lauderdale, FL -- March 14-18 (www.iafa.org).

I'll be attending, and delivering a paper on the film The Matrix. I'll post more details as I have them.

Hi Professor Jones! I'm a student of yours. But I'm not going to say who. Is this paper like what you taught in class? That would be cool. I'd really like to be there. Does this mean we'll get time off next semester?

Why can't they ever schedule conventions in Algonac, Michigan? Just wondering.

Hmmm... never have been a big fan of The Matrix. I thought it was too clever for its own good.

Hello Nameless,

The paper I'm delivering is quite different from the film studies approach we covered. And we still will have class :)

I don't think I can answer that one. Maybe the convention center doesn't give a good enough discount?

There is quite a bit that the writers/directors place into the film, which either adds or detracts from its cleverness. In this case, I'm avoiding the directors' intentions, and instead contrasting it against social constructing. Yeah, that doesn't sound too dry does it?

Stewart,

I'd be careful what you wish for.... William would be more than happy to create an entire convention in Algonac devoted to The Matrix and then drag you to it because you wanted a convention there....
